Grech POWER MAX vs. POWER CORE: Which Energy System Is Right for You?

Every 2027 Grech RV comes with one of two energy systems, and the choice is made the moment you pick a model. The Strada, Turismo, and Terreno carry GRECH POWER MAX. The Vacanza line carries GRECH POWER CORE. Both are built on the same 51V lithium-ion platform, so the spec sheets look similar at first glance. The differences, though, are exactly the ones that decide how you can camp. This guide covers what the two systems have in common, where they differ, and how to tell which one best matches your travel style.

What Both Systems Share

The two systems share the same core 51V architecture. Both run lithium-ion batteries with UL 2054 certification, an external battery management system, and a built-in Power Reserve that prevents deep discharge damage. Both are managed through the Garmin SERV+ house control system, monitored remotely through Grech Connect, and supported by the Battery Monitor App for state of charge, battery health, and diagnostics.

The two systems also use the same charging setup. An ARCO Zeus high-performance alternator recharges the batteries from idle, a roof-mounted solar panel system contributes passive charging through the day, and a Victron 3,000W MultiPlus-II smart inverter handles power conversion and shore power charging. Both platforms recharge up to 50% faster than the previous 12V generation.

What the Capacity Difference Actually Changes

The doubled capacity is easiest to understand through the runtime figure Grech publishes for rooftop air conditioning. POWER CORE is rated for up to 8 hours of A/C operation on battery, while POWER MAX extends that figure to up to 16 hours.

Those are the maximum published figures, not guarantees for every campsite. Actual runtime changes with outside temperature, thermostat settings, A/C cycling, battery state, and whatever else is drawing power at the same time. What the comparison clearly shows is that POWER MAX gives buyers substantially more battery reserve when air conditioning is a regular part of off-grid camping.

Air conditioning is one of the clearest ways to feel the capacity difference, but it isn’t the only one. Longer stays and heavier combined electrical loads also make the larger bank more useful.

The Cloudy-Day Scenario

Off-grid planning is easy on sunny days: solar contributes steadily, and the battery cycle stays shallow. The harder question, and the one worth deciding, is the overcast stretch with no shore power in sight.

With solar output reduced, both systems fall back on the same two options: either drive or idle the engine, letting the alternator recharge the bank. Neither system holds an advantage in how it recharges; what differs is the starting buffer. At 50% state of charge, POWER MAX still has roughly the nominal capacity of a fully charged POWER CORE available. That larger reserve gives you more room before charging becomes necessary, particularly when several high-draw loads are in use. Buyers who camp in one spot for several days at a time, in mixed weather, will feel this difference.

The Equipment Gap: Starlink and Audio

Two equipment differences accompany the capacity difference, and one of them is commonly misread.
